  61. 2.  INSTALLATION PROCESS
  62.  
  63.      The hard disk installation program, INSTALL.EXE, will copy 
  64.      the necessary files from OPTi Installation disk into your hard 
  65.      disk. Follow the following procedure to install the software:
  66.  
  67.      !!! Note: For Windows users, please exit from Windows and run
  68.                the installation from DOS.
  69.  
  70.      (Assuming you are using floppy drive A, and you wish to install
  71.       to hard disk drive C)
  72.  
  73.      1. Place the disk labeled "OPTi MAD16 Pro Installation" in 
  74.         Drive A.
  75.  
  76.      2. Type a: and press ENTER to change to Drive A.
  77.  
  78.      3. Type install and press ENTER to begin the installation.
  79.  
  80.      INSTALL.EXE will do the followings for you: 
  81.      
  82.      a.) Create the directory \SOUND16 in your hard disk drive. 
  83.  
  84.      b.) Prompt you for CD-ROM and sound card options so that after
  85.          you have finished the installation and have rebooted your 
  86.          machine, you will be ready to use the sound card.
  87.  
  88.      c.) Copy the files in your floppy disk to the SOUND16 directory 
  89.          and Windows directory respectively.
  90.  
  91.      d.) Update your CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT and SYSTEM.INI files
  92.          In CONFIG.SYS, the following will be added:
  93.  
  94.          - DEVICE=C:\SOUND16\CDSETUP.SYS /T:S /P:340 
  95.            (assuming SONY CD-ROM)
  96.            DEVICE=C:\SOUND16\SLCD.SYS /D:MSCD000 /B:340

  117.            SND16.DRV is the Base driver comprising WAVE, MIDI,
  118.            MIXER and AUXILIARY audio services.

  120.            MPU401P.DRV is the device driver for MPU-401 Wave Table 
  121.            Synthesis interface which requires a MPU-401 compatible 
  122.            device attached to the MIDI Input/Output port or the Wave 
  123.            Table connector on board the sound card.

  125.            VSND16D.386 is the Virtual Device driver for Windows 
  126.            Enhanced Mode.

  129. 3.  GETTING HELP ABOUT SNDINIT.EXE
  130.  
  131.      You can issue the following command to get information 
  132.      about sndinit.exe:
  133.  
  134.      - SNDINIT /?
  135.  
  136.  
  137. 4.  VOLUME CONTROL TSR PROGRAM
  138.  
  139.      The volume control memory resident program, VOLTSR.EXE, allows
  140.      you to change volume using hot keys while you are in a DOS 
  141.      application. The hot keys are:
  142.  
  143.         Ctrl-Alt-U      Raises the volume
  144.         Ctrl-Alt-D      Lowers the volume
  145.         Ctrl-Alt-M      Mute
  146.  
  147.      For example, pressing the CTRL, ALT, and U keys will raise 
  148.      the volume.
  149.  
  150.      You need to load the TSR before you can use it. To load the TSR,
  151.      type VOLTSR at the DOS prompt.
  152.

  154. 5.  KARAOKE PROGRAM
  155.  
  156.      The Karaoke.exe program allows user to control the input volume
  157.      of the microphone on the fly with "HOT KEYS." Before using 
  158.      Karaoke, the VOLTSR.EXE program must be successfully loaded
  159.      and running.
  160.  
  161.      To enable Karaoke Mode, type: "KARAOKE ON" at the DOS prompt.
  162.  
  163.      To increase MIC input, use: Ctrl-Alt-PageUp
  164.      To decrease MIC input, use: Ctrl-Alt-PageDown
  165.  
  166.      To disable Karaoke Mode, type: "KARAOKE OFF" at the DOS prompt.

  169. 6.  CD-ROM Interface Setup Device Driver
  170.  
  171.      The CD-ROM Setup Device Driver is called CDSETUP.SYS. This 
  172.      driver sets up the interface of your CD-ROM to the MAD16 sound
  173.      card. Each time you change or add a CD-ROM to your sound card. 
  174.      The line "DEVICE=CDSETUP.SYS..." will be added to the first line 
  175.      of your CONFIG.SYS file before the CD-ROM device driver line. 
  176.      CDSETUP.SYS is defined as follows:
  177.      
  178.      DEVICE=[drive:]\[directory]\CDSETUP.SYS /T:[M/S/P/I/X] /P:[addr] 
  179.             /I:[IRQ] /D:[DMA]  
  180.  
  181.      [drive] = drive where you have the driver installed
  182.      [directory] = directory where the driver is located
  183.      [M/S/P/I/X] = M stands for Mitsumi
  184.                    S stands for SONY
  185.                    P stands for PANASONIC
  186.                    I stands for IDE drive
  187.                    X stands for disabled
  188.  
  189.      [address] = Port address for CD-ROM (320, 330, 340, 360)
  190.  
  191.      [IRQ] = Interrupt number (5,7,9,10,11)
  192.  
  193.      [DMA] = DMA channel (0, 1, 3)
  194.  
  195.      For example, the following line sets up the interface for a 
  196.      Mitsumi CD-ROM:

  198.      DEVICE=C:\SOUND16\CDSETUP.SYS /T:M /P:340 /I:10
  199.  
  200.      If you did not specify the /I or /D options, CDSETUP will 
  201.      automatically choose the default setting for the CD-ROM type 
  202.      your have specified.
  203.  
  204.      - For Mitsumi, the IRQ is 10 and DMA is disabled.
  205.      - For SONY, they are both disabled.
  206.      - FOR PANASONIC, they are both disabled.
  207.  
  208.      For IDE drive, you need to just specify the /T:I option. 
  209.      Specifying any other option in addition to this will be ignored.
  210.      The I/O Port and Interrupt for IDE is located at 170H and Int 15.

  213. 7) Run DOS games in Windows
  214.  
  215.      Our implementation is designed for those DOS games which have
  216.      icons in Windows and run in full screen DOS and close after 
  217.      finished. When multiple DOS boxes are open, only the first 
  218.      DOS box owns the audio device. DOS Box support could be very 
  219.      complicated, we have to concentrate our implementation only on 
  220.      those features most useful to the general users. We recommend 
  221.      to run game or play audio in DOS box only one at a time. 
  222.      Close the DOS box which owns the device will return the device 
  223.      to Windows. Then you can play audio in Windows or run another 
  224.      DOS game.

  226.      !! Note !!
  227.      a) Sometimes, the Setup of the PIF file of a DOS game is crucial. 
  228.         To make a game work effectively under Windows, you probably 
  229.         have to try a few alternative options through PIF editor.
  230.      b) Not all the DOS games can run in Windows' DOS BOX. Some of 
  231.         them just don't run because of system restrictions.
